Are you picky? Do you have a long wishlist of things you’ll probably never buy because you’re not sure if they’re good enough? Or are you an impulse buyer?
Either way, if you’re currently trying to figure out how to easily upgrade your home, this post is for you.
At the moment, we are remodelling one living room, and we created numerous collections of furniture for our client. We tend to spend quite a lot of time choosing the perfect piece, so we thought – maybe you’d enjoy a sneak peek?
So, this is not our usual ‘Things we love‘ type of post because, let’s be real, not many people can afford the things we love. It’s a collection of beautiful, budget-friendly side tables, chosen from two of our favourite (web)shops (IKEA and ZARA HOME) – literally a click away from your living room. Or bedroom. Or entryway. How annoying are the stuff we keep in our bathrooms? Don’t you feel like you have over a thousand little items over there, jammed inside a drawer? And there’s no way to organize them either, because every time you reach for something, you knock over everything else. It’s horrible!
So if you’re nodding while reading this, being all sick and tired of your bathroom situation, we challenge you to join us on our 5-day bathroom organization journey. Just think about it, if you begin today, you can start next week as a completely different person – you know, the one that’s not frustrated with the bathroom mess first thing on a Monday morning. The best thing is, five-day-plan is just our suggestion, you can adapt it to your own schedule.
But enough with the intro, let’s just start already! Continue reading “Bathroom organization challenge”
Have we ever told you we don’t live in perfect apartments?
You see, over the years, we both went through every imaginable stage of a home remodel – from quick fixes to entire home transformations. With a few too expensive temporary solutions and a lot of unnecessary purchases that, in the end, made no difference.
So either you live in a rental apartment, or you want to easily, and on a budget, fix up the one you own, stick around. Because we’re about to share with you home improvement ideas we know are good. The ones we tried and would do again. We’ll also include a few don’t-do-it/it-won’t-help remarks.
My friend said the other day: “Nothing is more photogenic than a ‘messy’ bed.”
This is so so soo true. At home, we try to make our bed as neat as possible but on social media, we seem to like those messy ones a bit more. Why is that?
Layers. It is all about layers.
Although as architects we seem to enjoy designing the space, and by that we mean carefully thinking about every little detail, sometimes all you can do in a room is decorate, and by that we mean carefully thinking about casually placing every piece of furniture and decoration in it.
Bedroom, in our opinion, is that kind of room. It is the most private room in the apartment and probably the only one where your guests never walk in – unless invited ;), it is your little oasis and you should style it the way that you’ll feel amazing in it. Closets. Don’t you feel like you love every single one you see on Pinterest, but hate your own? Guess lighting is different. Or yours isn’t white? And oh yeah, you don’t see the big pile of stuff that’s taken out of them in order to show „the perfect closet organization“ (also known as the pile of lies, muahahaha hah).
Just kidding. Some people are perfectly organized. Did you ever stumble upon and spent hours and hours going through organization-related projects on I HEART ORGANIZING like we did so many times?
When designing a room, we always advise you to imagine what do you want to do in that room, instead of what furniture you want to put in it. Same thing works for closets. Don’t think about how much drawers you want, but which items you’ll keep in them. Continue reading “Quick tips for closet design”
Dining can be extremely formal and extremely casual. And everything in between those to extremes. It is totally up to you.
You can be the person who organizes family dinners. The ones where no one can leave the table until everyone is done. And no one really wants to leave. Where are at least three courses, perfectly paired with the right kind of wine.
You can be the person who eats dinner alone, in front of the tv.
Or you can be the person who grabs a take out and eats in the car on the way home.
It is totally up to you. You just have to keep that in mind when designing your apartment. Continue reading “Do you even need a dining room?”
You know how they say ‘the eyes are the mirror of the soul’, well the entrance of our home should be a reflection of a whole house and of course it is also a reflection of our personality. This room is the first one that your friends will step into. That is why it is really important to make it the best one that can be. Make sure to make it colorful if that’s your thing, or as white as snow, play with tiles, wood, steel, do whatever you want but have in mind one thing: less is more – you can go a little overboard because it is not the space you’re spending much time in but don’t hoard everything you don’t have space for, in there.
You’ll often hear us say that interior design is not the same thing as home decor. But, when it comes to the entrance space, it almost is. There isn’t much you can do to make your entrance room more functional, accept having an entrance room (or entrance area). Continue reading “Tips and tricks for a perfect entrance space”
