Bathroom organization challenge

Bathroom organization challenge

Rental apartment improvements that actually make a difference

Rental apartment improvements that actually make a difference

Have we ever told you we don’t live in perfect apartments?

You see, over the years, we both went through every imaginable stage of a home remodel – from quick fixes to entire home transformations. With a few too expensive temporary solutions and a lot of unnecessary purchases that, in the end, made no difference.

So either you live in a rental apartment, or you want to easily, and on a budget, fix up the one you own, stick around. Because we’re about to share with you home improvement ideas we know are good. The ones we tried and would do again. We’ll also include a few don’t-do-it/it-won’t-help remarks.

Tips and tricks for a perfect bedroom

Tips and tricks for a perfect bedroom

My friend said the other day: “Nothing is more photogenic than a ‘messy’ bed.”

This is so so soo true. At home, we try to make our bed as neat as possible but on social media, we seem to like those messy ones a bit more. Why is that?
Layers. It is all about layers.

Although as architects we seem to enjoy designing the space, and by that we mean carefully thinking about every little detail, sometimes all you can do in a room is decorate, and by that we mean carefully thinking about casually placing every piece of furniture and decoration in it.

Bedroom, in our opinion, is that kind of room. It is the most private room in the apartment and probably the only one where your guests never walk in – unless invited ;), it is your little oasis and you should style it the way that you’ll feel amazing in it. Quick tips for closet design

Quick tips for closet design

Closets. Don’t you feel like you love every single one you see on Pinterest, but hate your own? Guess lighting is different. Or yours isn’t white? And oh yeah, you don’t see the big pile of stuff that’s taken out of them in order to show „the perfect closet organization“ (also known as the pile of lies, muahahaha hah).

Just kidding. Some people are perfectly organized. Did you ever stumble upon and spent hours and hours going through organization-related projects on I HEART ORGANIZING like we did so many times?

When designing a room, we always advise you to imagine what do you want to do in that room, instead of what furniture you want to put in it. Same thing works for closets. Don’t think about how much drawers you want, but which items you’ll keep in them. Continue reading “Quick tips for closet design”

Do you even need a dining room?

Do you even need a dining room?

Dining can be extremely formal and extremely casual. And everything in between those to extremes. It is totally up to you.

You can be the person who organizes family dinners. The ones where no one can leave the table until everyone is done. And no one really wants to leave. Where are at least three courses, perfectly paired with the right kind of wine.

You can be the person who eats dinner alone, in front of the tv.

Or you can be the person who grabs a take out and eats in the car on the way home.

It is totally up to you. You just have to keep that in mind when designing your apartment. Continue reading “Do you even need a dining room?”

Tips and tricks for a perfect entrance space

Tips and tricks for a perfect entrance space

You know how they say ‘the eyes are the mirror of the soul’, well the entrance of our home should be a reflection of a whole house and of course it is also a reflection of our personality. This room is the first one that your friends will step into. That is why it is really important to make it the best one that can be. Make sure to make it colorful if that’s your thing, or as white as snow, play with tiles, wood, steel, do whatever you want but have in mind one thing: less is more – you can go a little overboard because it is not the space you’re spending much time in but don’t hoard everything you don’t have space for, in there.

You’ll often hear us say that interior design is not the same thing as home decor. But, when it comes to the entrance space, it almost is. There isn’t much you can do to make your entrance room more functional, accept having an entrance room (or entrance area). Continue reading “Tips and tricks for a perfect entrance space”

An outdoor space should be an extension of the interior

An outdoor space should be an extension of the interior

Our clients seem to think that a balcony should be a separate space. Often we hear about how frustrated they are because they have a balcony that is only one meter wide, or even less.
Not much can fit in a room that is only one meter wide, but if your room could be one meter wider, that would be great, right?

That’s exactly how you should treat your outdoor space; balcony, terrace or even backyard.

Outdoor space is connected to a room – a bedroom, a kitchen or a living room – as its extension. We found some great projects to show you what we mean. Continue reading “An outdoor space should be an extension of the interior”
